Greater New York sticker: MOVE! @ PS1
During Halloween weekend, V Magazine organized a series of collaborative installations between visual artists and fashion designers at PS1. This list included the impressive pairings of Kalup Linzy and Diane Von Furstenberg; Rob Pruitt and Marc Jacobs; Terence Koh and Italo Zucchelli (Calvin Klein Collection); Tauba Auerbach and Ohne Titel; Olaf Breuning and Cynthia Rowley; Brody Condon and Rodarte; Rashaad Newsome and Alexander Wang; Dan Colen and Proenza Schouler; David Blaine and Adam Kimmel; Jonah Bokaer and Narciso Rodriguez; and Ryan McNamara and Robert Geller; and TELFAR + Lizzie Fitch, Rhett LaRue, Fatima Al Qadiri, Ryan Trecartin, and Leilah Weinraub…
And American Apparel and CHERYL. Seriously.
I happily volunteered to work at the installation on Sunday afternoon, which was basically a psycho beauty salon. Guests would walk in, and one of us, dressed all in white wearing a black cat mask and a pipe cleaner earpiece, covered in fake blood and glitter, would ask if they’d like a makeover. If they said yes, we’d escort them to our selection of nude-colored American Apparel garments. Then, they could change clothes, and go get their hair and makeup done by professional Aveda stylists (seriously), who had been instructed in the CHERYL arts, ie. the proper application of copious amounts of blood/glitter/hair extensions. After that, they could get a manicure (which I don’t think any of us were really equipped to give). Then there was a big white wall in front of which we took peoples’ photos with a series of props they could choose from. And Nick was playing lots of dancey tunes, so every little while, all of us would gather on that side of the room to do the CHERYL, or tape each other together, or wave around swaths of fabric, or jump around like maniacs. Y’know. The good stuff.
Tons of awesome photos of the day here.
P.S. I am counting this as a dance party because we danced a lot.
