Auction ticket*: Swimming Cities  & The Ocean of Blood: 2011 Art Auction w/ DJ James Stacher @ Gallery 151
Last weekend was the opening of the annual art auction put together by the Swimming Cities kids, a collective of artists headed up by Swoon who sometimes build fleets of rafts from scrap materials and sail all over the world spreading joy. This time, they were trying to raise funds for a forthcoming trip up the Ganges. The event was held at a gallery space right on Bowery between 3rd and 4th, and it was pleasantly crowded. We went over to check out the art, and also to catch a DJ set from James (aka Stacher), who just plain brought it. He played an incredible selection of tunes that made my heart go “Ohhhhhhhhh!”, including “Hey Lover”, “My Boo”, “Back That Ass Up”, “Too Close”, and “Lemme Smang It” (!). People lost it and were dancing like crazy. Some of the ladies in the crowd definitely evoked this song. *This photo is taken in front of a piece called “Kiss Da Cook” by Arielle Beer, which makes me think of Bo’ Selecta!.
