Joe’s Pub ticket: Arts & Crafts reading w/ Sandra Bernhard & Justin Bond @ Joe’s Pub
A couple weeks ago, my parents were visiting NYC to help me pack up all my worldly possessions for my move to LDN. On Monday, we went to Joe’s Pub to check out a reading of a musical written by the dynamic duo of Sandra Bernhard and Justin Bond, both of whom we all love quite a bit.We were sat right at the front, which meant a great angle of Sandra’s adorable crooked teeth and Justin’s straightened red bob haircut. The show focused on a pair of old childhood party buddies who are reunited; in their time apart, her character has managed to get wifed up by a Christian dude in the suburbs and his character is a powerful gay NYC art gallerist. Long story short, he manages to re-instill her with a sense of adventure along with the help of his gang of radical faerie friends. Not the most inventive premise, however they are incredible performers, and seeing them sing “Pour Some Sugar On Me” together was worth the price of admission alone. I am in doubt that this show will ever see the light of day, except for maybe a small run at some off-off-Broadway theater, but glad we checked it out. Apparently John Cameron Mitchell was in attendance too, but we missed him. Le sigh.
