Caged bird stamp: CHERYL: CASTLE @ The Bell House
With such bittersweet sorrow, I trekked out to The Bell House for my last stateside CHERYL for a while. The theme was CASTLE, which I was lucky enough to appear in the promo video for, portraying the role of Super Mario (check it out here!).
Great tunes from Messieurs DSO and Nick. The songs chosen for the performance were Quad City DJs’ “Come On Ride It (The Train)” and 69 Boyz “Tootsee Roll”. When I found out that this was going to be the case, I pretty much lost it—Miami bass for the win! Serious hometown pride.
Onstage, we each took on our characters from the video, and made a separate entrance. Jon G. was dressed as a dragon, so I got to co-opt him as my Yoshi, and rode him right on out there! We then all sat at a large banquet table which eventually unfurled into the audience, and then had a giant food fight with donuts, popcorn, and Twinkies, and of course doused ourselves and everyone else in blood.
Because of goddamn daylight savings, we lost an hour of the party. Thus, I easily made it to the end, which, as ever, involved us running around doing drunk Jazzercise to Miley Cyrus’ “See You Again” (just looking up this video on YouTube made me tear up a bit—jesus). However, the final song of the night was Sonique “It Feels So Good”, during which a crew of people picked me up and carried me around the dancefloor, which was excessively awesome. And then, we all took a giant group picture. CHERYL, my one true love, how I miss you already!
*At one point, we went outside. A couple of bears pointed at my friend Billy F., stretched out their arms, and asked him to limbo, which he did expertly. After they left, he remarked, “That was some daddy realness”. Indeed.
