Orange wristband: GETME! @ CAMP Basement
Last Thursday, I officially became a resident of London. Hooray! The next night, we headed to the Old Street area, which, as I was told/saw, is filled with unfortunate, drunken visitors from Essex (it’s, like, the British New Jersey). However, there is a venue there called CAMP Basement, which is actually in a basement, and is apparently somewhat temporary, but very cool nonetheless. When we descended the stairs, 8Bitch was finishing up her set. Up next was Photomachine, who played a great garage-y and UK funky-based set which included a track that mashed together Ginuwine’s “Pony” and Jodeci’s “Freek’n U”. Then XXXY took to the decks, along with Tawiah, who did some rapping and toasting which unfortunately was not my favorite. I have heard good things about XXXY though, so hopefully I’ll catch him again, solo, soon. Then, Lil’ Silva came on. I’ve been admiring his particular brand of UK funky from afar, and was excited to see him live. However, it was at about this point that the jet lag massively caught up to me, and it was time to leave. But there will be more to come. Oh yes, there will be more.*Apparently, Peaches Geldof was also in attendance. And there was a bit of an incident. Hilarious.
