London is a Melting Pot of Cultural Soliloquy* (Sunday, May 1, 2011)
No stamp: PonyStep @ The Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen
As the nation celebrated it’s double bank holiday fortunes last weekend, we headed down to a party called PonyStep to do some dances. I wore a (sort of) fascinator. The crowd was very fashion-y, which is not so much my thing in its most formal sense, but there was also a fair share of wacky outfits, which is very much my thing in its most formal sense. I had been to this venue once before, in the summer of 2007, for a now-defunct party called Boombox. Soon after arriving, we saw that Beth Ditto was also in attendance, since one of her Gossip band mates was slated to DJ. It was hard not to fan out since I adore her, but somehow I kept it together. In the back room, the disco ball was spinning and people were certainly up for it. The music was an eclectic mix of ‘90s gems, some of which I didn’t know because I didn’t grow up in the UK, with some disco and house thrown in for good measure. *This hilarious utterance came from the Glaswegian wonder that is Dan M. I pretty much lost it.
