Can I Get? Can I Get-Get? (Saturday, May 7, 2011)
Handwritten ‘BL’: Dirtbox @ Vogue Fabrics
Now, I have been to some sweaty basement parties in my time. I must say that Vogue Fabrics in Dalston is the sweatiest, basementest sweaty basement I have EVER had the pleasure of attending a dance party in. The occasion was a gay night called Dirtbox, which I’d heard about through friends in London, but also because some of the party’s resident DJs were guests at CHERYL when the crew was in town this past January. We took the bus in the rain and arrived at almost 2am, when things were in full swing. Walking down the stairs, it was clear that this venue is basically someone’s home. The sweltering heat hit us right away, and when we reached the dancefloor, many of its inhabitants had taken their shirts off for a) fashion’s sake and b) because it was ungodly hot. Even the walls were sweating. We took a place near the DJ booth, and danced to tons of fun ‘90s tunes, including (I will be PG about it) “Short Short Man”. Also, I nearly had an aneurysm when they played Tensnake’s “Coma Cat”. Dirtbox, I’ll be back.
