Has It Come to This? (Tuesday, May 24, 2011)
No stamp: Boiler Room #55: Standard Place Takeover w/ Joker feat. Nomad & Jessie Ware, French Fries, Oneman, Jon Rust & Reecha @ Corsica Studios
Another Tuesday, another Boiler Room! After eating breakfast for dinner (eggs, pancakes n’ bacon), we headed South to check out the latest installment. We walked in to the sounds of Reecha and Jon Rust, who were playing some straight up grime in the form of Maxsta’s “East London Is Back”. They then switched gears and played The Weeknd’s “The Morning”, and the sizable crowd went mental.
Next up was Joker, who admittedly I hadn’t really heard anything from since about 2009, but who I’ve always really loved. Backed by his trusty MC Nomad, he played a selection of new tunes alongside his classics, like “Digidesign” and “Purple City”. At one point, Ms. Jessie Ware joined them to add some vocals to the situation, performing the song she’s done with Joker called “The Vision”. It felt a little too mainstream dubstep-y for me, but she certainly does have a good set of pipes.
For me, the real treat of the night came next, when Oneman took to the decks. In short, I want this man to DJ my LIFE. He played: Snow’s “Informer”, Panjabi MC’s “Mundian To Bach Ke”, The Streets’ “Has It Come to This”, Canblaster’s “Triple Ring”, The Weeknd’s “What You Need”, Red Hot’s “Junior Spesh”, Dizzee Rascal’s “I Luv U”, and James Blake’s “Limit to Your Love”.
Just. Impeccable.
