No stamp: Don’t Call Me Urban! The Time of Grime book launch @ Rich Mix
Photographer Simon Wheatley recently published a book containing 10 years’ worth of his photos of the London grime scene cleverly called Don’t Call Me Urban, and to celebrate, there was a launch and showcase featuring lots of up-and-coming grime style rappers, with Jammer (aka Murkle Man) headlining. We arrived and had a look at some incredible old photos of Wiley, Kano, Tinchy, Dizzee and the like, with free wine to match. After a jaunt to Super Pizza (which was not so super as this cross-blog-pollinating will show), we returned for the music. While a bunch of the performances were adorably amateurish, we had a lot of fun watching Little Rascals, Riskit, Lioness, No Lay and a bunch of others do their thing. Between sets, pretty much every classic grime tune was played— so many that I couldn’t recall them all if I tried. Of course, it all  got super rowdy when “Next Hype” came on (DRAAAAAAAAAAAAPES!!!). And then Jammer took to the stage and killed it, the end.
